Limited Edition Book Design
-
This limited edition book was created entirely by hand, from the interior typography to the final binding. I sourced the text online and designed every page, including the half title, full title, table of contents, chapter openers, and colophon. After printing all 416 pages, I assembled the book block into 12-page signatures, hand stitched them together, and constructed a custom case using book board. The cover was wrapped in leather, embossed with a star, and the completed book block was carefully cased in.

One of the greatest challenges of this project was balancing the technical demands of traditional bookbinding with the extensive editorial work required to produce a polished publication. Before the book could be printed, the text had to be cleaned, formatted, and carefully laid out across more than 400 pages in Adobe InDesign. Establishing consistent typography, spacing, chapter openers, and page numbering while maintaining readability was a meticulous and time-intensive process. Once the interior was complete, every stage of production, from printing and folding signatures to hand stitching and constructing the leather case, required precision to ensure the finished book was both structurally sound and visually refined.

These challenges were overcome through an organized, iterative workflow that prioritized both accuracy and craftsmanship. Paragraph styles, character styles, and master pages in Adobe InDesign were used to maintain consistency across more than 400 pages, making it easier to manage typography, spacing, and page layout while reducing formatting errors. Multiple rounds of proofreading and print testing ensured the interior was polished before production began. During the binding process, each signature was carefully folded, stitched, and aligned by hand, and the custom case was measured and assembled with precision. By combining thoughtful digital production techniques with traditional bookbinding methods, the final piece achieves a cohesive design that is both visually engaging and built to last.
